After a successful debut in the dugout on Saturday, Kevin Nolan will be hoping to retain his perfect record as a manager by winning his first home game as well. However, Newport currently find themselves at the wrong end of the table and they will be keen to upset the party in order to move further away from the drop zone. Here we preview Tuesday night’s game:
Leyton Orient
Kevin Nolan made a winning start as Orient manager on Saturday as his side defeated play-off contenders Wycombe Wanderers by two goals to nil.
Neither side managed to produce much quality in the first half and as a result the game remained goalless at the break.
However, Nolan’s first half-time team-talk clearly worked well as the O’s raised their game after the interval and that led to them going in front shortly after the hour. Mathieu Baudry headed the ball down to Jay Simpson who was lurking in the penalty area. The league’s top goalscorer brought the ball down and fired it past the Wycombe stopper.
The O’s then had more chances. Wycombe also applied some pressure but Orient finally sealed the win with a second goal in the 89th minute courtesy of Calaum Jahraldo-Martin. The Hull loanee played Simpson in behind the Chairboys’ defence and the striker returned the favour by playing Jahraldo-Martin through on goal and he slid the ball past Alex Lynch and into the Wycombe net.
Nolan helped the O’s to record just their second league win nine games and their first clean sheet in the league since late October.
That victory also lifted the O’s up into 8th place in League Two and they now sit just one place and two points outside the play-offs. A win against Newport could see Nolan’s men move up as high as sixth place as the only other League Two fixture on Tuesday night sees Morecambe take on Mansfield.
Team News
Kevin Nolan stayed on the bench throughout the win over Wycombe. Although he has stated that the O’s will see him in action at some point he is keen to ensure that the focus remains on managing his players and he believes those who featured deserve to keep their places ahead of him.
Mathieu Baudry returned to the side following his suspension and he helped to shore up the defence. Frazer Shaw was also back in the team at left back.
Calaum Jahraldo-Martin was handed his first start to good effect, along with debutant Nigel Atangana. Fellow new signing Armand Gnanduillet had to settle for a cameo as a substitute but he will be hoping to make his full debut on Tuesday night.
Alan Dunne was not part of the squad on Saturday due to a groin injury and as result he is set to miss out again. Cole Kpekawa is also an injury doubt after the QPR loanee picked up a foot injury.
Sammy Moore was thought to be fit again following a leg injury, however he was not in the squad that made the trip to Adams Park.
Atangana was substituted at Adams Park due to what appeared to be an injury, however the player revealed that he was suffering from cramp and therefore he is likely to be available to make his home debut against Newport.
Lloyd James (Achilles), Dean Cox and Paul McCallum (knee ligament injuries) remain on the sidelines.

Newport County were showing signs of improvement under John Sheridan. Before his move to Oldham earlier this month, Sheridan had lifted them off the bottom of League Two and up as high as 20th despite failing to win any of his last four league games in charge of the Exiles. His assistant Warren Feeney took over on the 15 January 2016.
Feeney’s first game in charge saw a 1-0 win at York City. Newport were then knocked out of the FA Cup in a narrow defeat against Championship Blackburn Rovers.
On Saturday Newport rescued a point against fellow strugglers Dagenham & Redbridge. Christian Doidge gave the Daggers the lead inside the first minute of the game and Joe Worrall made it 0-2 five minutes later. It appeared as if the Exiles were heading for defeat, but they managed to grab two goals inside the last ten minutes. First John-Christophe Ayina’s effort delfected into the Daggers’ net, then two minutes from time Conor Wilkinson made it 2-2 with a finish from close range.
Last Line-up:
Beeney
Holmes Donacien Hughes Davies
Klukowski Byrne Rodman
Wilkinson Boden Smalley
(4-3-3)
Substitutes:
Green, Taylor, Ralph, Twumasi, Barrow (Donacien 72′), Owen-Evans (Klukowski 68′), Ayina (Smalley 58′)
Newport are currently in 20th place in League Two on 24 points from 26 games and they are just four points above the Daggers who sit in 23rd place.
Team News
Newport will continue to be without goalkeeper Joe Day as he serves the second match of his three-game suspension following his dismissal in the FA Cup tie against Blackburn Rovers.
Defender Janoi Donacien is an injury doubt after suffering a hamstring problem that forced off the pitch on Saturday. Centre-back Matt Partridge is also an injury concern.
Darren Jones has returned to the club and he will be hoping to make his third Exiles debut at Brisbane Road.
Leyton Orient were victorious when the two sides met earlier in the season at Rodney Parade. Paul McCallum put the O’s ahead after just four minutes and Jay Simpson then doubled their lead with a fine strike from just outside area. However, the Exiles hit back with two goals in quick succession just before half time. First Scott Boden reduced the deficit, then Mark Byrne equalised three minutes before the interval.
Despite being pegged back, Dean Cox won the game for the O’s just before the hour as he applied the finish to Blair Turgott’s cross.
Orient also won when Newport last travelled to Brisbane Road in September 1987. The O’s managed a 4-1 win.
Newport’s last away win over the O’s was in October 1982. The Exiles won by five goals to one.
