Leyton Orient have confirmed that Kevin Nugent has decided to leave the club after nine years as part of the coaching staff.
Nugent began his playing career with Leyton Orient, making 125 appearances before joining Plymouth in March 1992. He had a second spell with the O’s ten years later, playing another 32 games for the O’s.
He returned to the O’s as youth team manager in 2007. After the departures of Martin Ling and Dean Smith, Nugent served as caretaker manager in January 2009, before taking the assistant manager role under new boss Geraint Williams. When Williams left the club in April 2010 Nugent took charge of one game before the arrival of Russell Slade. He then reverted to his role as assistant manager.
In September 2014 Nugent took charge of the first team again following Russell Slade’s departure. During his seven games in charge he won two, drew two and lost three games. In October 2014 Nugent reverted to assistant manager under Mauro Milanese and he continued in that role under Fabio Liverani following his appointment as manger.
Nugent then became first team coach when Ian Hendon became Orient manager last summer as Andy Hessenthaler was recruited as his assistant.
Nugent’s contract was due to expire this summer, however he has opted to leave Orient.
