O’s Sign Benedičič

Leyton Orient have announced the signing of Slovenian Under-21 international Žan Benedičič. The 20-year-old was a free agent following his release from Ascoli Picchio and he has signed a contract with the O’s until January. Benedičič primarily operates as a central midfielder.

Born in Kranj, Slovenia in October 1995, Žan Benedičič began his career as a youth player with local side Triglav Kranj.

In 2011 he joined AC Milan‘s youth academy. He scored 6 goals in 35 games for Milan’s Under-19 side during the 2013/14 season. Benedičič was called up to the Rossoneri’s senior side for their pre-season tour of the USA.

In August 2014 he moved to England, joining Leeds United on a season-long loan. Žan made his Leeds debut as a substitute in their League Cup win over Accrington Stanley. He then came off the bench against Bolton in a Championship fixture. However, soon after Benedičič suffered a serious knee injury that required surgery.

He returned to Italy and he signed a permanent deal with Serie B side Como last summer. He played nine games for the club before moving on.

In January 2016, he joined Ascoli and he played nine times in the Serie B for the Bianconeri.

He has been a free agent since the end of last season.

Benedičič has also been capped at every youth level by Slovenia. He has played 13 games and scored one goal for the Slovenia Under-21s since making his debut in June 2013.

Žan will wear the number 33 shirt with Leyton Orient.
