Leyton Orient have appointed Alberto Cavasin as first-team manager. The 60-year-old has agreed a two-year contract with club and will take charge of the the team for the first time on Tuesday night when the O’s travel to Southend United in the Football League Trophy. Cavasin’s last managerial position was with Sampdoria in 2011.
Along with Cavasin, Alfredo Vergori has joined Orient as head of fitness. Andy Edwards will revert to his role as assistant manager.
Born in Treviso, Italy in January 1956, Cavasin had a 17-year playing career as a right-back, playing for clubs such as Atalanta, Bari and Verona. He ended his career as a player with Padova in 1990.
He has had a 26-year career as a manager, taking charge of a number of clubs in the Serie C, Serie B and Serie A including Fiorentina and Brescia. He won the Italian Coach of the Year award in 1999/00 while at Lecce. His last job was with Sampdoria towards the end of the 2010/11 season, He oversaw their relegation to Serie B.
